The Woodlands is recogized as one of the best planned communities in the nation. Population is approaching residents and land area is 28,00 plus acres, located approximately 28 miles North of Houston.
The community has been designed for an appealing mix of residential, schools, shopping, churches and commercial. In order to keep a small town atmosphere, the residential communities are set up in Villages and within the villages there are Neighborhoods (much like subdivisions, but with limited access). Throughout The Woodlands are 180 miles of hike and bike trails and over 100 parks, with pools in each of the Villages.
The Villages are: Alden Bridge - Cochrans Crossing - Grogans Mill - Harpers Landing - Indian Springs - Panther Creek - Sterling Ridge including May Valley) and Creekside . The Gated Community of Carlton Woods offering private and privileged living. Additionally, Windsor Hills and Windsor Lakes offer 55 and older communities with amenities.
In 2010 Governance switched from Community Associations, by Village to of a Township overseeing the both the residential and commercial needs of the community.
